Nutrition Essentials: Nourishing Your Pregnancy Journey-2

Food & eating is one of the most important aspects of our lives. And it becomes all the more important when we are talking about a pregnant lady.

In the part 1 of this article, you learnt the tips 1-5 of the right food & diet for a healthy pregnancy. (If you haven’t read that article, you should do it before or after reading this one) Here, you will learn about tips 6-10:

  1. Milk is very important for pregnant ladies.
    • Take at least two glasses of milk daily.
    • Avoid packaged milk.
    • The best would be desi cow’s milk or A2 milk.
    • Besides this, dairy products like buttermilk (छाछ, मट्ठा), paneer, chhena, etc should be regularly taken.

  2. Include ghee in your daily diet, preferably one made of desi cow’s or A2 milk. It is very useful for you as well as your baby (for your joints & for the brain development of your baby & many other things). A good way to take ghee is - put it in rice or in your chapati & eat.

  3. As far as possible, fix your meal times and eat at the same time. It would be excellent if you don't vary your meal timings by more than 15 minutes. Otherwise you are likely to suffer from indigestion and other gastric issues even if you are taking healthy food. And you will wonder why this is happening.

  4. Eat now what you want your child to develop a liking for in the future. Yes, that's right. Are you surprised? Taste buds of babies start to develop from the 4th month of pregnancy. And what you eat has a strong impact on them.

So, pregnant ladies, beware of what you eat. If you want your baby to like eating salads, vegetables, fruits & other life enhancing food when they grow up, you should eat them NOW.
  5. And the last important tip is:
    • Eat slowly with full awareness and attention to each grass of food.
    • Avoid all types of screens (mobile, gadgets, TV, etc) while eating.
    • And chew the food in mouth well - at least 40-50 times. By chewing
the food well in the mouth, 80% of digestion of carbohydrates in the food happens there itself & digestion improves. Your food will taste better & you will feel satiety for a longer time.
We hope that you will use these tips for yourself & your family. Remember, taking action is the key to getting results. Best wishes for your comfortable pregnancy & a healthy baby
